Argentine Tango

What is Argentine Tango?

Argentine Tango is a partnered social dance from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Not to be confused with Ballroom Tango (American or International), Argentine Tango has very different musicality, posture, embrace (frame), and intentions.

This dance has a relaxed frame, often being barely different than a hug. It also does not have a set rhythm structure; the couple chooses movements and steps in the moment, based on how the music makes them feel, giving dancers a large amount of creative freedom.

While other sub-types of Argentine Tango exist (performance, competition, etc), Solid Tango teaches social improvised tango, which is the predominate type danced around the world. "Social" meaning the goal is to allow you to dance with a variety of partners in a relaxed, social setting, not to go to a competition. "Improvised" meaning teaching you to be creative and build a dance cooperatively with your partner in the moment, versus "choreographed", where steps are chosen beforehand and memorized.

Why Dance Tango?

Argentine tango is more than just a dance—it’s a conversation without words. In each step, you learn to listen, respond, and move in harmony with another person. The music is rich and expressive, and the dance itself combines elegance, improvisation, and connection. People are drawn to tango not only because it’s beautiful to watch, but because it feels incredible to do. As you learn, you develop balance, posture, musicality, and awareness, while sharing moments of creativity and connection on the dance floor.

And dancing tango can just plain make you feel good. If you found the previous paragraph a little touchy-feely, how about some hard science? Of the 4 neurochemicals responsible for happiness and well-being, tango hits them all. It's no wonder many people describe their love of tango as an addiction.
